Story 5: INDIA’S FIRST BLIND LADY CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT : RANJANI GOPAL

Several students with normal health struggle to pass the examination despite the best of professional coaching and excellent supportprovided by their family. It is inspiring to know that Ranjani Gopal, a visually challenged girl has cleared the exam during 2002 to become India’s first visually challenged woman to pass CA examination.
She was prescribed penicillin tablets for common cold by a doctor when she was nine years old. This was given without test dosage and this resulted in an allergic reaction which in medical terminology is known as “Steven Johnson Syndrome”. Her vision started deteriorating gradually and she lost her vision in right eye by the time she completed B.Com degree course.
She found it difficult to get a job due to her disability. She thought of pursuing CA course to improve her chances for getting a job. With lot of determination she joined CA course as there is not much need to attend regular classes like other courses. She started using the screen reading software and learnt how to use computers. She got all the materials converted to soft copy and started studying in a focussed manner. After facing lot of difficulties, she successfully passed the CA examination and is now well placed in a reputed firm.
Ranjani Gopal has proved that it is possible to pass the CA examination if one prepares in a focussed manner in spite of any physical handicap. When a physically challenged person passes the tough course, no excuse can be accepted from a person enjoying normal health.
Rajani Gopal has come a long way after losing her eye sight. She treads on paths that make even sighted people think twice before taking up. Behind this chartered accountant, Veena player and social worker, lies a determined woman who has defied all logic when it comes to success.
.
Story 6: Inspirational Story of a Blind Chartered Accountant

Despite being blind, Rajashekhar realises his dreams of Being CA and he achieved his desired goal. IF HE CAN DO DEN Y NOT YOU..
Disability can never be a hindrance for a person to be successful. All it requires is commitment, Determination and a little support from kith and kin.
This is what 23-year-old J. Rajashekhar Reddy proved. Despite the loss of sight at the age of 11, he Fullfill his dream to become a Chartered Accountant.
Born in a poor family in Guntur, problems confronted and depression stalked him at every stage. “It is sheer will power. If you believe in your dreams and work accordingly, success follows you.
It was, however, not an easy path. He attended CA training classes at different institutions . He used to make notes and record all lectures to listen later. For the examination, he collected soft copies of books, got them scanned and used text-to-speech software for making notes. While it is accepted that clearing CA finals is a tough proposition, Mr. Reddy has the distinction of doing it just in his second attempt. “He is an inspiration to the disabled,”
Blessed with a sharp brain and aided by the latest software for the visually challenged, Rajashekhar made relentless efforts for five years to reach his goal.
“There were many, including my mother, who thought that it was impossible for a person like me to clear the examination but I never felt discouraged,” said Rajsekhar, who learnt to do mental math at an early age.
“I used to study for hours at a stretch for the exams not just to clear it but also to prove that a visually challenged can accomplish whatever he wants,” he added.
“The profession of CA is an honoured post in the society and hence I was motivated to pursue it. My father works as an electrician and mother is a homemaker. It is a little difficult for them to comprehend the sense of my achievement. In fact, looking at the jitters I was going through before my results were declared, my mother was worried that I chose a profession which causes stress and wanted me to relax at home,” said the boy from Guntur, who cleared the examination in his second attempt on Jan 21.
.
Story 7: Failure became 1st Ranker
Yes, its true, if you failed in this exam then don’t worry you can get rank in next examination, if you prepare hard with confidence to crack exams with a rank. Here I have given examples of peoples who were failed in their first attempt but got rank in next exams.
1. Nitin Gupta – Failed in CA Final, May 10 – Got Rank 1 in CA Final Nov ’10
2. Sujoy K. N. – Failed in CA Final, Nov ’09 & May 10, Got Rank in CA Final Nov 10
3. Sonia Rakheja – Failed in CA Final, Nov 09 & May 10, Got Rank in CA Final Nov 10
Above list is just an indication that how those students who were failed in theirs first/second attempt got 1st ranks in next exam. This list can be huge as every time such students are passed and get ranks.
Tips to get rank:- So friends, if Nitin Gupta/ Sujoy K.N. / Sonia Rakheja can do it, then why you can not do the same??? Be confident and trust your self and make up mind to crack your next exam with Rank because if you expect and try for a rank then you will definitely pass with good marks and if you will try only for passing then you may fail again. Just ask your self at which points you were lacking in last attempts and try to learn from those mistakes and you will be the CA/CS/CWA Cracker next time.

Story 13: Famous Chartered Accountant : Mr.Radhe Shyam Agarwal
Mr. Agarwal is on left and Mr. Goenka on the right.

Once a CA left his job, sold his products on hand-pulled rickshaw and is now among the 100 richest Indians!
.
.
Although it seems to be a script of Bollywood movie, but this is the real life story of Mr.Radhe Shyam Agarwal.
.
A Chartered Accountant and a Company Secretary, Mr. Agarwal graduated from St.Xavier’s College, and also holds an LLB from Calcutta University.
.
In 1970, he joined the renowned Aditya Birla Group as Vice President. But within four years, he left his cushy job and decided to follow the torturous trail of entrepreneurship. In 1974, Mr. Agarwal and his childhood friend R.S. Goenka, borrowed a seed capital of Rs. Twenty Thousand, and incorporated a company. The company was meant to deal in Ayurvedic medicines and cosmetics under the brand name of Emami.
.
The intial days were tougher then they appeared. The capital base of Emami was small, angle investing was an non existing concept, and the entire cosmetic market was dominated by multinationals. Due to the lack of working capital, the early founders used to sell products from one shop to another on
hand-pulled rickshaws.
.
The finacial astuteness came handy in 1978, when he decided to take over a century old business of Himani Ltd, a privately owned company. Himani Ltd had an established goodwill in the West Bengal, but was in financial trouble. Inspite of being a company with a small capital base, the acquisition was carried out, and later it became the turning point in the Mr. Agarwal’s story.
.
Himani was restored to profit and the debt taken for the deal was paid off within two years. A decade later an antiseptic cream, named Boroplus was launched. It became a success to the extent that later boroplus itself became the brand, and other products, like boroplus prickly heat powder, were launched under its flagship. Emami, later went on acquiring stakes in Zandu Ltd and created further brands under its umbrella. In addition to this, the entire range of Navratna products, like Navratna talcum powder, were also launched by Emami.
.
Today Emami is a Group of Indian multinational companies, dealing in real estate, paper, edible oils, cement etc, and is widely known for there FMCG range. The founders has unanimously decide that the group will not enter the tobacco, liquor, hotels or film businesses.
.
In 2015, the net worth of Mr. Agarwal was assessed as $1.43 billion!
.
As I am closing this article, I have realised that I can never see a tube of Boroplus in the same way.
.
P.S Since Mr. R.S Goenka has equal relevence in the success story of Emami. Hence I found it legit to attach the photograph of both the gentlemen. Mr. Agarwal is on left and Mr. Goenka on the right.

Story 14: NAINA LAL KIDWAI- MOTIVATIONAL STORY
NAINA LAL KIDWAI

Have you ever meet people who think that a woman belongs to kitchen?

Once, on being asked about her experience as a women banker, she said " Strangely enough people around me were waiting for me to commit that one mistake so that they could pull me down". From missing her first marriage anniversary to a number of her children's birthdays, she had to make fair number of sacrifice, just to prove that her competencies has nothing to do with her gender.

Currently along with HSBC, Mrs.Kidwai is also serving the board of Nestle as a non-executive director. Moreover she is also on the Governing Board of National Council if Applied Economic Research (NCAER), Audit Advisory Board of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) and National Executive Committee of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and FICCI.

Story 16: THE ACCIDENTAL CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS ‘CA’.. THE JOURNEY BEGINS

Hey friends! This is an all new initiative to bring to you stories of some interesting people who never wanted be Chartered Accountants, but were destined to be. This will be a series of very short stories of those whose passions are different than profession. They are the ones who proved that they are not fools but multi-talented people as firstly, they never parted with the passion and secondly once they started off with it, they never quit CA. No one today can call them fools as it takes determination and diligence to pass one of the most difficult examination in the country. These stories can inspire you in more than one ways.. if CA is your dream then if the ones whose dream was completely different, they managed then you can too and if you are amongst the lot whose passions are different then you can be another accidental Chartered Accountant .
.
Today’s story is of a girl who could be anything in life but a CA.Her passions were totally different from the white collar high paying profession. She was artistic and very soft spoken- qualities totally contrary to the needs of the profession. Had she been in any other western or culturally open country, she could have followed her heart and just because fate decided this way, she was born in India and that to a typically dominating family so she diverted her ways and picked up CA as a career, not really aware what was waiting for her in her journey.
.
Many of you would relate to what is it like living in a traditional joint family in India, the restrictions imposed on you, the additional duties that you are bestowed with and of course that extra bit of pampering. Anvesha ( Name Changed) was one of those. Born and brought up in a very affluent joint families of India was a bright young child who was unaware that things do not go as planned. That at times every member of your family stands against you when you take a decision that does not match with theirs. This is what first time happened with 17 year old Anvesha who after scoring well in the Class 12 board exams was not allowed to go her way.
.
Anvesha had flair for writing and equally good were her designing skills. She had picked fashion designing as optional subject and thus knew her basics and then with the help of her personal contacts she had learnt much more than just basics. Whenever she used to dress for an occasion it was different and it was appreciated. Similarly, her writing skills were no behind. She used to score well in her English exams, was a regular contributor in the school magazine, had won a few intra school and inter-school story writing competitions and had a few articles in the reader section of the newspaper to her credit. She had decided that she would pursue her career in either of the two. She knew in her heart that she will not be allowed to move out of the home and study still she asked and answer, as expected was a flat NO. She however applied for the two very prestigious colleges in the country, one for English honours and the other for fashion designing using all the pocket money she had saved. She had thought that her family would happily allow once they have the news of their daughter being selected for one of the most prestigious colleges in the country.
.
She was selected for English honours but the family did not allow her to go. They wanted her to do fashion designing from some local college and marry at 21. She however was stubborn that if not allowed to go, she would do the best she could staying at home. That was when CA crossed her mind and she registered.
.
Being a brilliant student she cleared her CPT and IPCC in her first attempt and without much effort. She thought it would be a cake walk but was wrong. The challenge started when she joined her training. The work pressure, the office politics and no spare time at all took a toll on her and she shed her weight considerably, leaving her body look like skin coated skeleton. This was when she realised that being pampered wasn’t a boon but a curse.
.
She hardly had time to study and when the attempt was due, she took two months’ leave to study all that she could. The result ended up in being first experience of failure for her. Anvesha was shattered, but this strengthened her determination. That very moment she decided she would overcome this. Now, she won’t be just a CA but a CS too.
.
The very next day, without asking anyone, she registered for CS, knowing that there was very less time to study between CA and CS exams. But she took this challenge. Only after registration she told her family about her decision and they were left without any option.
.
This time around, her CA articleship was complete and she had time to study along with a burning desire to make it happen. The exams were tiresome since there was hardly any time between the two, but the results were something extra ordinary. Anvesha was now CA Anvesha and after a month’s time in CS professional too. She decided to do CS first and then take any further decision career wise. During this period she designed clothes, wrote articles for the CA magazine and also CS journals. And in no time she was CS too.
.
Today she is a settled CA and A CS. Her articles are still hit and she continues to design. She works as a CA and in weekends pays attention to her designing. Anvesha intends to be an entrepreneur in future and start her own clothing brand. She intends to use all that her profession taught her to make a career in her passion. I’m sure she will make it big because all that matters is Happiness and this is what makes her happy.
.
If Anvesha did it, so can you. All you need to do is finish off with what you started and follow your heart. Your career choice is very good as it will not leave you financially dependent on anyone and then you can always follow your heart using all the experience you had as a CA student. Do not quit because there will be a time when you realise it was worth the effort.
.
I hope you connect with Anvesha and get some inspiration.
