CPE Hours Stands for Continuing Professional Education. In order to keep your M no. you must have a minimum of CPE credits to be completed. You can earn CPE’s Hours by attending live seminars or teleconferences or other modes specified by ICAI .

Since its inception, the ICAI has always recognised the significance of Continuing Professional Education (commonly known as CPE) for its members and pursued it as one of the avowed objectives so as to ensure that its members maintain the quality of service and knowledge expected of them.

The following class of members are exempted from CPE credit hours requirement:

• All the members (aged 60 years and above) who are not holding COP.
• Judges of Supreme Court, High Court and Tribunal.
• Members of Parliament/MLAs/MLCs.
• Governors of States.
• Centre and State Civil Services.
• Entrepreneurs (owners of Business (manuf.) organizations.
• Judicial officers.

Penalty for non compliance with CPE Hours for Rolling period (Block Period) 01-01-2014 to 31-12-2016.

• The names of the members would be hosted on the website of the ICAI for information of public at large. Moreover, the ICAI will not be responsible in any way for any action taken by any of the regulatory authorities on the basis of the names hosted on the website for allotting the professional work to them as sole proprietor or to their partnership firm.
• To strike out the name/s from the list so hosted on the website, the CA shall have to complete twice of the hours of the shortfall. Such additional hour should be in addition to the regular CPE hours requirement for the particular Calendar year in which they are making up the shortfall.

Clarification on applicability of CPE hour’s requirement for the newly enrolled members during the block of three years

As per the Statement on CPE a member is exempted only for the particular calendar year during which he gets his membership for the first time.

Notes

1. Members enrolled at any point of time during the Calendar year 2016 (1st January-31st December, 2016) whether holding COP or not are exempted for this block of three years (2014 to 2016)
